Commissioning Manager - Mission Critical
GCON is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of commissioning for complex mission-critical projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional from a general contracting background who excels at managing multi-disciplinary commissioning teams, complex MEP systems, and high-stakes project delivery.
As the Commissioning Manager, you will be the owner of the commissioning process, from preconstruction strategy to final turnover. You’ll coordinate across project teams, trade partners, clients, and third-party commissioning agents to ensure systems perform to the highest standards of reliability and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the entire commissioning process for multiple, large-scale data center projects, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty systems.
- Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning plans, schedules, and workflows for all phases—pre-functional, functional, integrated systems testing, and final turnover.
- Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, including project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and third-party commissioning agents.
- Oversee risk management and recovery strategies for schedule, system readiness, and critical path impacts.
- Ensure quality assurance, code compliance, redundancy requirements, and system reliability are met.
- Lead client-facing meetings and presentations, providing technical expertise and progress reporting.
- Partner with preconstruction teams to review design documents, anticipate challenges, and optimize system sequencing.
- Drive continuous improvement by integrating technology tools, standardizing commissioning workflows, and mentoring project teams.
- Manage final project turnover, including complete documentation, owner training, and lessons learned.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8–10+ years of experience in commissioning for mission-critical or data center projects with a general contractor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience leading commissioning for large-scale, complex MEP and critical infrastructure systems.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and third-party commissioning agents.
- Deep knowledge of construction sequencing, testing protocols, and integrated systems commissioning.
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system interactions under tight deadlines.
- Excellent client-facing communication and reporting skills.
- Experience delivering hyperscale or enterprise-level data center projects for leading clients.
- Proficiency with Primavera P6, Procore, BIM 360, and commissioning management software.
- Familiarity with industry standards (ASHRAE, NEBB, BCA) and mission-critical reliability practices.
