Underwriter Intermediate

The Opportunity Are you an analytical professional with a passion for risk management and a commitment to serving a mission-driven community? We are seeking a dedicated Intermediate Underwriter to join our Property & Casualty team. In this role, you will play a critical part in providing financial security for our members by evaluating and decisioning insurance applications within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do As an Intermediate Underwriter, you will utilize your expertise to assess risk for personal or commercial lines. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Risk Evaluation: Reviewing complex applications to determine eligibility, ensuring all risks align with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.

• Decision Making: Utilizing a moderate level of authority to approve, modify, or decline coverage while balancing profitability with exceptional member service.

• Data Analysis: Leveraging advanced underwriting software and statistical data to identify trends and perform root-cause analysis.

• Collaboration: Acting as a subject matter resource for junior team members and maintaining relationships with internal partners to resolve escalated issues.

• Compliance: Ensuring all business activities are identified, monitored, and controlled in accordance with strict risk management policies.

What You Have

• Education: Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

• Experience: 4+ years of experience in insurance or financial services, with at least 2 years specifically in an underwriting capacity.

• Technical Skills: Proficient knowledge of P&C insurance products, policy forms, and industry-standard software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

• Core Competencies: analytical reasoning, decisive judgment, and the ability to communicate complex decisions effectively to diverse audiences.

What Sets You Apart

• Hold a professional designation such as CPCU, AU, or API.

• Previous experience in an "entrepreneurial" or high-volume environment.

• Military experience or a personal connection to the military community.

salary: $25 - $27.28 per hour
