About the Role
Provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments across educational settings. As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), you’ll assess functional vision, develop and implement IEPs, and deliver individualized instruction that promotes access to the curriculum, independence, and life skills. This role blends consultative services, direct instruction, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

What You'll Do
- Conduct Functional Vision Assessments (FVA) and Learning Media Assessments (LMA)
- Develop and implement IEP goals aligned to visual access, compensatory skills, and expanded core curriculum (ECC)
- Provide direct and consultative services to students in general and special education settings
- Adapt instructional materials (e.g., Braille, large print, tactile graphics, audio formats)
- Support students in developing Braille literacy, orientation to materials, and use of assistive technology
- Collaborate with Orientation & Mobility (O&M) specialists, related service providers, teachers, and families
- Train staff on classroom accommodations and strategies for students with visual impairments
- Monitor and document student progress; maintain compliant IEP documentation
- Participate in and lead IEP meetings as appropriate
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Arizona Department of Education Special Education Teaching Certificate with Visual Impairment Endorsement (TVI)
- Bachelor’s degree
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Visual Impairment or Special Education
- 2–5 years of experience working with students with visual impairments
- Experience with Braille instruction and assistive technology (e.g., screen readers, magnification devices)
- Familiarity with ECC (Expanded Core Curriculum)
- Strong organizational, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with IEP documentation systems (e.g., IEP Pro)
