Position Summary:

The Compliance Manager leads the development, implementation, and oversight of regulatory compliance and risk management programs across our freight brokerage operation. This role plays a critical part in protecting the company’s operating authority, mitigating financial and legal risk, and ensuring adherence to all federal, state, and customer-specific regulatory requirements. The Compliance Manager partners closely with Operations, Carrier Sourcing, Finance, and Sales to ensure scalable growth while maintaining strict compliance standards.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance & Oversight:

  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable FMCSA regulations and Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Maintain brokerage operating authority, surety bond compliance, and regulatory filings.
  • Monitor changes in transportation laws and regulations and proactively implement operational updates.
  • Develop and enforce internal policies aligned with regulatory and customer requirements.

Carrier Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Oversee carrier onboarding compliance, including authority verification, insurance validation, safety ratings, and required documentation.
  • Monitor carrier safety performance, including CSA scores, insurance status, and authority changes.
  • Partner with Carrier Sourcing to establish compliance thresholds and escalation procedures for high-risk carriers.
  • Implement fraud prevention protocols to mitigate double brokering, identity theft, and cargo theft risk.

Contract & Documentation Management:

  • Manage broker-carrier agreements and customer contracts to ensure regulatory and risk alignment.
  • Standardize compliance documentation and audit readiness processes.
  • Maintain accurate records for internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Oversee COI tracking and insurance compliance verification.

Claims & Incident Management:

  • Oversee cargo claims management process from intake through resolution.
  • Collaborate with insurance providers, carriers, and customers to ensure timely claim resolution.
  • Track trends in claims and service failures to identify root causes and reduce recurring risk exposure.
  • Implement corrective action processes when compliance violations occur.

Internal Controls & Audit Readiness:

  • Design and execute internal compliance audits to evaluate adherence to SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify operational risk gaps and implement corrective action plans.
  • Prepare for and manage external audits, customer compliance reviews, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Develop reporting dashboards to monitor compliance health and risk indicators.

Training & Cross-Functional Leadership:

  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs for Operations, Carrier Sales, and Customer Sales teams.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for regulatory and risk-related inquiries.
  • Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Partner with leadership to align compliance strategy with revenue growth and operational scalability.

  • Carrier compliance rate and onboarding accuracy.
  • Reduction in cargo claims frequency and severity.
  • Audit readiness and zero regulatory violations.
  • Insurance compliance adherence rate.
  • Fraud prevention incident reduction.
  • Claim resolution cycle time.
  • Regulatory filing accuracy and timeliness.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, Law, or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in compliance, transportation, or logistics operations.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation and safety regulations (e.g., DOT/FMCSA, OSHA, HOS, HAZMAT).
  • Experience with regulatory audits, inspections, and reporting.
  • Ability to develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
  • Risk assessment and internal control experience.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency in compliance systems and reporting tools (e.g., Excel).
  • Relevant certifications (CCEP, CRCM, CSCP, ISO Auditor) preferred.

  • Possess customer service-related experience.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and crisis management skills.
  • Manage the pressures and stress associated with a deadline-oriented atmosphere and customer service issues.
  • Demonstrates skill in making independent decisions in support of company policies and procedures on time.
  • Ability to work with peers and associates from other departments, operating companies, and Corporate proactively and constructively.


Compensation:

  • The base pay is competitive, depending on experience ($75K – 85K annually) and will be discussed during the interview.
