Plant Manger
The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and operational success of the Mesa precast concrete manufacturing facility. This role oversees all aspects of plant operations, including production, safety, quality control, staffing, scheduling, inventory, and coordination with office, sales, and project teams.
The Plant Manager serves as the key link between company leadership, the retail/commercial office, and plant floor operations. They ensure that precast wall systems and related products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of precast concrete production, and the ability to balance hands-on plant oversight with strategic planning and cross-department coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations & Production Management
- Oversee all daily plant operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and consistent production of precast concrete products.
- Develop and manage production schedules to meet customer demand, project timelines, and delivery commitments.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and workflows across forming, reinforcing, pouring, finishing, curing, stripping, and storage operations.
- Monitor production performance and address bottlenecks, downtime, or resource constraints.
- Collaborate with the Retail Office Manager and commercial teams to align production output with sales orders and project requirements.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Lead, mentor, and support the Lead Foreman and production supervisors.
- Ensure crews are properly staffed, trained, and equipped to meet production and safety expectations.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Ensure all precast products meet engineering specifications, project requirements, and company quality standards.
- Work closely with Quality Control to implement inspection processes, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
- Review drawings, production plans, and project documentation to ensure accurate execution.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, rework, and waste.
Safety & Risk Management
- Champion a safety-first culture across all plant operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and inspections.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, implement corrective actions, and reinforce safe work practices.
Inventory, Equipment & Maintenance Oversight
- Oversee raw material inventory, molds, embeds, hardware, and production supplies.
- Coordinate with procurement and office staff to ensure timely availability of materials and accessories.
- Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of plant equipment including mixers, batching systems, cranes, forklifts, and formwork.
- Work with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage plant operating costs, labor efficiency, and productivity metrics.
- Review production reports, labor hours, scrap rates, and performance data.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives.
- Provide regular operational updates and reports to senior leadership.
Cross-Department Coordination
- Collaborate with the Retail Office Manager to support commercial and retail sales operations.
- Coordinate with logistics and delivery teams to ensure accurate and timely shipment of products.
- Serve as a technical and operational resource for project managers, engineers, and sales teams.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in precast concrete manufacturing, concrete production, or related construction materials environment.
- 3+ years of management or plant leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of precast wall systems, concrete mixes, reinforcement practices, casting, curing, and finishing processes.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage production schedules, and drive operational efficiency.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and plant safety programs.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and production plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting both commercial and retail construction product operations.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent (or willingness to obtain).
- Familiarity with ballistic or high-security precast systems.
- Experience with inventory management systems and production reporting tools.
