BAS Technician (Remote w/Travel)

Summary

The BAS Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining building automation and control systems within commercial, industrial, and mission-critical environments. This role supports project teams, ensures proper system functionality, and helps deliver high-performing, energy-efficient solutions for clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, wire, and configure building automation system (BAS) components including sensors, controllers, actuators, and networked devices.

• Support commissioning activities by testing system performance, verifying sequences of operation, and documenting results.

• Diagnose issues with BAS hardware, communication networks, and control logic; provide timely repairs or recommend corrective actions.

• Assist with system upgrades, retrofits, and integration of new equipment.

• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, electricians, and mechanical contractors to ensure accurate and efficient installation.

• Interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documentation.

• Perform system checks and preventative maintenance to ensure long-term reliable operation.

• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system changes.

• Support adherence to company safety procedures and site-specific requirements.

• Provide exceptional customer service and communicate project status or technical issues as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical training in HVAC, electronics, controls, or related field preferred.

• 3+ years of experience working with building automation systems (DDC, EMS/BMS preferred).

• Understanding of HVAC equipment operation and control sequences.

• Experience with controls platforms such as Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Tridium/Niagara, Distech, Schneider, or similar systems.

• Ability to read wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and control schematics.

• Strong troubleshooting skills with both hardware and software-based control issues.

• Familiarity with low-voltage wiring, networking basics, and field devices.

• Proficiency with standard computer tools (Microsoft Office, mobile apps, control software interfaces).

• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and support multiple projects.

• Willingness to travel to job sites and work in active facility environments.
