Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Float Pool Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be able to titrate cardiac drips Description: Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to signing contract. There are a maximum of two attempts for this exam within 48 hours of offer. If travelers fail the exam, they will be sent home. They will be made a do not use for six months in specific regions. There is a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. If travelers fail the simulation, they will be sent home and made a do not use for six months. Travelers will float between all telemetry and MedSurg units. Floating is required and may include ICU, cardiac telemetry, all telemetry units, MedSurg, and any holding area. Notification of campus and unit will be given 1.5 hours prior to shift start. Floating to different units mid-shift can happen. Rarely will there be floating to another campus within a single shift. Travelers must clock out when leaving one campus and clock in upon arrival at the other campus. Common diagnoses include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, day 2 CABG patients, and general telemetry cases. Travelers must be able to interpret EKGs. Medications such as Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, and Dobutamine may be administered. No pediatrics are included in this specialty; the minimum age is 15 years. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Additional details include ratios of 1:3-4 depending on the unit, centralized tele, and hospitalist rounding. A two-day floor-specific orientation will be provided for travelers. This position is within an acute care setting. Charting is conducted using the Cerner system. Travelers may be assigned to float to various units as required.
