Overview
The VDC Engineer is responsible for leveraging technology and virtual design and construction methodologies to improve project efficiency and collaboration. This role involves implementing and managing Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring accurate and effective utilization of virtual design tools and techniques. The VDC Engineer collaborates closely with project teams and stakeholders to drive innovation and optimize project outcomes. Success in this position entails delivering high-quality BIM models, coordinating interdisciplinary collaboration, and facilitating seamless integration of virtual design into construction processes.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive BIM execution plans for projects, outlining BIM goals, standards, and processes.
- Collaborate with project teams to create accurate and detailed BIM models for electrical systems, integrating electrical components within the overall project model.
- Coordinate and manage clash detection and resolution processes, ensuring clash-free models and minimizing design conflicts during construction.
- Provide technical support and training to project teams on BIM software and virtual design workflows, promoting best practices and efficient utilization of virtual design tools.
- Conduct regular model reviews and audits to ensure compliance with BIM standards, accuracy of information, and adherence to project requirements.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination meetings to address design conflicts, resolve issues, and promote effective collaboration among stakeholders.
- Collaborate with general contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to incorporate their models into the overall project model, ensuring seamless integration and coordination.
- Assist in the implementation and utilization of emerging technologies such as laser scanning, drone imaging, and augmented reality to enhance virtual design and construction processes.
- Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in BIM technology, attending conferences and training sessions to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the electrical contracting industry, with a focus on BIM and virtual design.
- Proficiency in BIM software such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Autocad MEP, and Bluebeam.
- Strong understanding of BIM methodologies, standards, and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve design conflicts.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with project teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of construction processes and familiarity with construction documents and drawings.
- Familiarity with laser scanning, drone imaging, and other emerging technologies is a plus.
- BIM-related certifications (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional) are desirable but not mandatory.
- Physical ability to perform site visits and inspections as required.
