Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC Project Lead/ Superintendent with expertise in design, installation, and service of mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will lead projects from concept to completion, manage and mentor teams, and ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. This role requires strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, excellent project management skills, and a commitment to delivering reliable and efficient solutions for our clients.
Responsibilities:
Project Leadership & Design
- Lead and manage projects from concept through completion, including strategic planning, consulting, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction oversight.
- Collaborate with development teams to establish overall design concepts, presentation strategies, and execution plans.
- Perform design reviews, identify process deficiencies, and propose solutions for improved efficiency and quality.
- Work with estimating and construction groups to ensure accurate design information is integrated into budgets and schedules.
- Prepare system calculations for correct sizing of HVAC and plumbing systems, including energy usage analysis.
- Provide design support and documentation during all phases of project execution.
Technical Expertise
- Design and oversee HVAC systems for a variety of building types and complexity levels, including:
- Chilled water generation and distribution
- Refrigerant cooling systems (VRF, DX, etc.)
- Space heating and cooling systems (VAV, chilled beams, radiant cooling, fan coils, displacement ventilation)
- Ventilation and air distribution systems
- Domestic hot and cold water systems
- Building automation systems and controls, with interface to electrical systems
- Ensure compliance with mechanical and plumbing codes as well as building rating systems.
- Support specification, procurement, and commissioning of systems and equipment.
Service & Maintenance
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems and components (ductwork, splits, rooftops, package units, etc.), ranging from 1–15 tons.
- Perform preventative maintenance, warranty services, and calibration per manufacturer standards.
- Clean, adjust, and repair systems to optimize performance and air quality, including duct cleaning and condensate management.
- Document all installed and serviced equipment (make, model, serial numbers, test measurements, photos).
- Provide clear explanations of issues, corrective actions, and preventive steps to clients and stakeholders.
Construction & Installation
- Plan, layout, and oversee HVAC ductwork and system installations for construction projects.
- Supervise and mentor installation teams; assist with brazing, wiring, and startup of new equipment when required.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials.
- Visit and oversee work in diverse environments, including rooftops, crawl spaces, refrigeration rooms, and confined spaces.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies to secure necessary permits.
- Provide regular project updates to stakeholders, highlighting progress, challenges, and proposed solutions.
Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, parts, and safety equipment in proper working order.
- Foster team development by mentoring installers and junior staff.
- Exhibit excellent leadership to motivate employees, maintain high morale, and drive performance.
- Uphold organizational standards with strong attention to detail, urgency in meeting deadlines, and commitment to safety and quality.
- Maintain and enforce safety programs, including employee training, PPE usage, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Conduct quality control inspections and post-installation follow-ups to ensure compliance with project specifications and client satisfaction.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in HVAC design, construction, or service management.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC/mechanical systems
- Proven ability to lead projects and teams from design through installation and service.
- Familiarity with building codes, safety programs, and quality control practices.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
