Job Title: Facilities Control Engineer Lead
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Salary: $100,000–$130,000/year
Job Type: Direct Hire
- Serve as the enterprise technical authority for Building Management Systems (BMS) and facility automation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standards for BMS architecture, alarm management, data integrity, validation, and lifecycle management.
- Lead the design, commissioning, qualification, and validation strategy for facilities control systems while ensuring regulatory compliance and consistency.
- Own the reliability, performance, and long-term sustainability of facility control systems across multiple sites.
- Partner with Quality teams to ensure compliance with GxP requirements, data integrity standards, and audit expectations.
- Serve as the controls engineering subject matter expert during audits, inspections, and investigations.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to environmental controls, system obsolescence, cybersecurity, and business continuity.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Quality, IT, and Laboratory leadership to align automation strategies with operational and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical leadership to internal engineering teams and oversee external automation vendors.
- Clearly communicate technical issues, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- High school diploma.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in facilities controls, automation engineering, or Building Management System (BMS) ownership within regulated life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or clinical laboratory environments.
- Experience managing enterprise-level BMS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, or Honeywell across multiple facilities or complex regulated sites.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, environmental control strategies, alarm management, and building automation protocols including BACnet, Modbus, OPC, and PLCs.
- Experience leading validation and compliance strategies for facility automation systems, including audit participation and remediation.
- Thorough understanding of GxP principles, data integrity requirements, and regulated laboratory operations.
- Ability to work independently while influencing cross-functional teams and driving alignment across technical and business stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and strategic problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard engineering documentation tools.
- Master's degree.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with room mapping, commissioning, and qualification of controlled environments.
- Certifications such as:
- Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP)
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
- Manufacturer certifications for Building Management Systems
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and access mechanical spaces for extended periods.
- Lift up to 40 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to work within control panels, sensor housings, and equipment racks.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and laboratory environments.
- Periodic travel is required.
- Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
- Participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours technical emergencies is required.
