Mechanical Commissioning Engineer III
Join a leading provider of data center commissioning services in the Phoenix, AZ area as a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer III. This role is essential to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of mission-critical data center systems. As part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in the commissioning of complex mechanical and electrical systems, supporting the growth and operational excellence of high-performance facilities. The position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale projects, develop technical expertise, and contribute to the success of clients in a rapidly evolving industry. Travel of up to 75% is required, providing exposure to a variety of projects and environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute commissioning activities for data center mechanical systems, including generators, CRAC units, rooftop AHUs, humidifiers, sprinkler systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, exhaust fans, and digital electrical distribution equipment.
- Review client design packages and documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Monitor and analyze Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Level 3 tests for new and first-of-kind equipment.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation, including test procedures, logs, checklists, and reports.
- Prepare and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and methods of procedures (MOPs) for mechanical systems.
- Participate in daily commissioning meetings and coordinate with project teams, contractors, vendors, and clients.
- Conduct integrated system and load bank testing, compiling and verifying all test results.
- Assist with field troubleshooting and provide technical support for commissioned equipment as needed.
- Ensure adherence to quality management and quality control processes throughout all project phases.
- Attend construction and coordination meetings as required for project success.
- Travel up to 75% to project sites as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in engineering preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5-10 years of experience in the engineering field, with a focus on complex facilities or mission-critical projects.
- Previous experience in data center or mission-critical environments is required.
- Experience with electrical equipment testing in critical facilities is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with IEEE/ASHRAE procedures and protocols is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of systems design for large-scale projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in moderate noise environments.
