Market Manager

The Market Manager is responsible for training and developing a successful team within the Havasu Landing Market. Overall responsibilities include meeting and exceeding financial goals including gross profit, shrink, sales, labor and incidental department costs. The Market Manager is responsible for ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment for employees and customers. Providing an excellent customer service experience is a key objective. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a medium-sized grocery store.
- Operate a cash register and understand all the store functions.
- Experience working with the public effectively is necessary.
- Train, supervise and discipline market staff, where necessary, is required.
- Maintain operational hours as scheduled by the Resort General Manager and the Resort Board of Directors.
- Supervision, training and evaluation of employees, including scheduling of employee work hours, verification of hours worked by employees and submission of bi-weekly time sheets.
- Training of all department personnel and the preparation and administration of all relevant performance evaluations.
- Counsel and discipline employees, through to termination if necessary.
- Account for all department sales.
- Preparation of all sales reports and transmittal of funds to the Administrative Office.
- Regularly or as required, take inventory of all items for resale.
- Price items for resale in order to maximize business profitability.
- Order sale items as necessary using the JIT method to ensure that the store is not overstocked.
- Constant re-evaluation of the operation and the recommending of changes for more efficient resources to maximize profitability.
- Implement changes as directed by the Resort General Manager.
- Speak clearly and listen attentively to both employees and customers.
- Prepare and recommend annual budgets to the Resort General Manager.
- Ensure maintenance and repair of department’s equipment and property.
- Plan store layouts and design displays, propose selling strategies, and negotiate pricing with suppliers.
- Comply with all health standard set forth by agencies recognized by the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe.
- Willing to work any shifts as needed to ensure the operation of the market.
- Must be able to performance of any and all other duties as assigned by management.
- Must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have 5 years of prior managerial or supervisory experience in retail store management.
- Must have at least 2 years of experience as market/grocery store retail management.
- Must have prior experience with use of both a P.O.S. and Inventory system and the ability to oversee installation of either system.
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel including the ability to communicate through Microsoft Outlook (email).
- Four year degree preferred but not required or equivalent business experience.
- Frequent bending and reaching, standing for an 8 hour shift, frequent walking throughout the store
- Sitting for 6 hours or more, excellent finger dexterity and frequent repetitive motions
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. alone and up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
- Must be able to provide assistance unloading inventory from delivery truck when necessary
- Frequent bending and reaching, standing for an 8-hour shift, frequent walking throughout the store
