Job Summary:
The Pipefitter (Plastic) is responsible for installing, assembling, and maintaining piping systems made primarily of plastic materials, including PVC, CPVC, HDPE, and other thermoplastics. This role requires reading blueprints, using hand and power tools, and ensuring all piping systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and piping diagrams for proper installation of plastic piping systems.
- Cut, shape, and assemble plastic pipes and fittings using appropriate tools, adhesives, and joining methods.
- Install and repair piping systems for water, chemical, and waste applications.
- Inspect piping systems for leaks, alignment issues, or other defects and make necessary adjustments.
- Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to ensure project requirements are met.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and job progress.
- Perform preventive maintenance on existing plastic piping systems.
- Stay updated on industry standards, building codes, and new technologies related to plastic piping.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in pipefitting preferred.
- Proven experience working with plastic piping systems (PVC, CPVC, HDPE, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and pipe-fitting equipment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in a construction or industrial environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
Working Conditions:
- Work may involve exposure to chemicals, wet conditions, and heights.
- Some travel to job sites may be required.
- Schedule may include overtime, weekends, or shift work depending on project needs.
Preferred Certifications:
- OSHA safety certification
- NCCER or equivalent pipefitting certification
