Work Environment & Format
This is a hybrid-eligible position, where Monday through Wednesday would be working in one of our offices, with Thursday and Friday eligible for work-from-home days. Office locations include: Reno (NV), Monterey (CA), Roseville (CA), Bakersfield (CA), Phoenix (AZ), and Spokane (WA).
Job Overview
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for the development and production of new and renewal Agribusiness accounts. Oversees the maintenance of constructive business relationships with assigned agents and works with them to identify new business opportunities, evaluate risks, recommends corrective actions and educates the producer to identify risks that meet Company guidelines. Reviews individual applications for Ag lines to evaluate the degree of risk involved and to approve or reject based on Company policies. Develop new business, retains renewal book of business, and manages territory of assigned agents.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience:
- College Degree in finance, business administration, insurance or other related business discipline is preferred including and
- 3-5 years’ experience as an Ag or Commercial lines underwriter.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize assigned authorities to make decisions that benefit the company’s bottom line and provide solutions to our valued agency partners
- CPCU certification or completion of technical insurance coursework focusing on underwriting principles is preferred
- Proficient with Excel, Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Tableau preferred
- Experience with Policy Center and Guidewire highly desirable
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
Knowledge of:
- Underwriting practice, procedures, rules and regulations
- Rating plans (ISO or similar) and commercial lines coverages
- Knowledge of social, economic and competitive aspects of territory assigned
- National and local business conditions and trends
- Account and portfolio pricing based on goals and expense initiatives
- Underwriting and marketing philosophy and procedure
- Basic mathematics and the application of formulas
Ability to:
- Correlate risk factors to underwriting standards to determine acceptance of risk
- Analyze problems and develop effective, pragmatic solutions
- Effectively exchange ideas, information and influence others
- Obtain and maintain a valid Driver License and operate a vehicle.
- Perform and produce consistently under pressure of deadlines within production standards
- Use assigned underwriting authority to drive profitable results

Salary Range: $63,729 - $105,153
The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
