Mine Engineer

Origin Mining Company
Golden Valley, AZ
Origin Mining Company operates the Mineral Park copper-molybdenum mine in Arizona and is focused on responsible, sustainable resource development. We aim to lead the U.S. copper industry through strong safety practices, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. Our team is committed to doing things the right way—acting with integrity, supporting our communities, and creating long-term value. With a hands-on, technically driven approach, we are advancing both leach and concentrator operations to produce high-quality copper and molybdenum products.

Position Overview:
The Mine Engineer is responsible for providing technical engineering support for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of an open pit mining operation. This role supports mine planning, production optimization, drill and blast design, geotechnical monitoring, and operational performance analysis while working closely with operations, geology, survey, and maintenance teams. The Mine Engineer will develop and maintain mine plans, monitor mining activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, safety, and resource recovery.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly mine plans in alignment with the life-of-mine plan and production targets.
  • Monitor mining activities to ensure compliance with approved mine plans, safety standards, and operational objectives.
  • Prepare and update short- and medium-term mine designs, production schedules, and excavation sequences.
  • Design and coordinate drill and blast programs to support efficient rock fragmentation and mining performance.
  • Develop and maintain ore stockpile, waste dump, and haul road designs to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Monitor ore and waste movement to ensure material is placed according to plan and in compliance with environmental and operational requirements.
  • Analyze production data and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for operational improvement and cost reduction.
  • Collect, review, and report geotechnical monitoring data, identifying potential risks and recommending corrective actions as required.
  • Collaborate with geology and grade control teams to ensure accurate ore delineation and resource utilization.
  • Support survey activities and validate mine designs against field conditions.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify mining progress, identify operational challenges, and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation for management and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety initiatives, risk assessments, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, environmental, and geology teams to achieve production and business objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in open pit mining operations.
  • Experience with mine planning and design software such as Vulcan, MineSight, or similar 3D CAD platforms.
  • Experience developing mine plans, production schedules, and drill and blast designs.
  • Strong understanding of open pit mining methods, mine design principles, and operational best practices.
  • Experience with geotechnical monitoring, slope management, and mine safety programs is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
  • Ability to perform regular field work in an active mining environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status is considered an asset.
Physical Demands:
To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information.
  • Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
