Base pay range
$100,000.00/yr - $105,000.00/yr
The Corrective Action Unit’s Senior Engineer is responsible for reviewing reports, proposals, and documentation of work conducted associated with environmental remediation for regulatory compliance and as part of financial assistance programs. As Arizona’s primary expert in this field, you will be conducting technical evaluation of the design, implementation, and operation of corrective actions to ensure efficacy and regulatory compliance. Coming in as a senior-level staff expert also requires mentoring and coaching junior staff so that Arizona can achieve and maintain its goals.
Job Remote: This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements). Job Duties
- Perform environmental calculations based on provided methodologies.
- Significant contributor for cross-divisional environmental issues.
- Lead the development of complex environmental calculations.
- Provide high level of engineering support for staff.
- Review and evaluate corrective action plans and make recommendations.
- Assist Project Managers by reviewing and commenting on remediation proposals involving environmental or public health impacts.
- Evaluate and support open leaking underground storage tanks cases; assessing proposed and ongoing remedial activities.
- Coordinate and meet with responsible parties, owners, operators and consultants to discuss characterization and guide appropriate corrective action.
- Provide technical assistance to the regulated community, staff, and the public pertaining to environmental impact and regulation.
- Evaluate remedial proposals, performance, and associated costs.
- Conduct reviews of Corrective Action Plans for technical appropriateness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Complete expert review of complex technical/program documents and applications pertaining to environmental impact and regulation.
- Mentor and audit the technical work and review products of junior level staff.
- Expertise in the design, planning, permitting; testing; implementation; and performance monitoring and assessment of multiple remedial technologies for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soil, groundwater, and light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPL), minimally including: air sparge & soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE), multi-phase extraction (MPE), pump & treat, and in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO)
- Expertise in the development of Conceptual Site Models (CSMs) and remedial objectives for soils, groundwater, and LNAPL
- Proficiency in the review and analysis of technical appropriateness, feasibility, and cost estimation for: (i) bench and pilot-scale testing plans; and (ii) comparison of multiple technologies for full-scale implementation, based on site-specific conditions and adherence to nationally-recognized standards & practices
- Proficiency in the development and review of remedial performance monitoring plans and results for multiple remedial technologies, including identification of transition performance criteria
- Experience in the operation & maintenance and optimization of injection and extraction remediation systems
- Experience in the characterization of LNAPL bodies for extent, composition, and stability using multiple technologies and recognized approaches
- Knowledge of Arizona state and federal underground storage tank regulations
Selective Preference(s)
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree in an engineering discipline.
- Eight (8) or more years of engineering experience. Master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
- Professional Engineering certification through the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or an equivalent organization in a reciprocal jurisdiction is required.
- Experience with State and Federal environmental regulations, legal or regulatory research, agency policies and processes, or other regulatory knowledge is preferred.
