Your Role as an Asphalt Coring Technician:
The Asphalt Coring Technician will be responsible for transporting specialized asphalt and concrete coring equipment using a truck and trailer to one to two job sites per day. The primary task is to collect asphalt cores for quality control and analysis, with the technician gathering between 1 and 10 cores per site. This role involves the precise operation of coring equipment, ensuring accurate and timely sampling while strictly adhering to safety protocols. After collecting the samples, the technician will be responsible for properly patching the cored holes using materials such as non-shrink grout or hot mix asphalt. Success in this role requires keen attention to detail, physical endurance, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Work Independently with little to no supervision
  • Operate a Pickup Truck Towing a Trailer
  • Operate coring machines to extract asphalt samples from roads, parking lots, and other paved surfaces.
  • Conduct field tests on asphalt cores to assess compaction, density, and material composition.
  • Document and label extracted cores for further laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain and calibrate coring equipment to ensure precise and accurate core extraction.
  • Analyze and interpret data from field tests to determine compliance with construction specifications and standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, lab managers, field supervisors and project controllers to provide insights based on core analysis results.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed on-site to protect self and others from potential hazards related to coring operations.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on core extractions and field test results.
  • Coordinate with construction crews to plan and schedule coring activities without disrupting ongoing work.
  • Manage inventory of coring supplies and materials, including ordering and restocking as necessary.
  • Liaise with laboratory personnel to ensure timely and accurate analysis of core samples.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with coring equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.

Work Schedule:
The Field Technician is a full-time position working upwards of 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, and possibly Saturday work. We start work as early as 4 am to ensure we arrive to job sites on time and are not working too far into the heat of the day. Hours may be supplemented by helping in other departments if there is a pause in coring jobs.

Work Requirements:

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with little to no supervision
  • Operate a pickup truck towing a trailer
  • Ability to safely back up a trailer
  • Have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
