Oak Creek Vineyards and Winery is a charming and boutique family-owned estate vineyard nestled in the Verde Valley AVA. With 6 acres of meticulously tended vines, we take pride in producing premium quality grapes that reflect the unique terroir of our region. We are committed to sustainable farming practices, ensuring that our vineyard thrives in harmony with our harsh high desert environment. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Vineyard Manager to join our team and oversee the day-to-day operations of our vineyard.
Responsibilities:
1.\tVineyard Operations: Manage and execute all aspects of vineyard operations, including planting, pruning, canopy management, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and harvest.
2.\tTeam Leadership: Lead a small team of vineyard workers, providing guidance, training, and supervision to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
3.\tVine Health and Care: Monitor vine health and implement necessary measures to ensure the vines are well-maintained and thriving. Make informed decisions regarding disease and pest management, nutrient application, and other vineyard care practices.
4.\tIrrigation and Water Management: Implement and manage irrigation systems to ensure proper water distribution and optimal vine growth. Monitor water usage and make adjustments as needed.
5.\tHarvest Planning and Execution: Plan and coordinate the annual grape harvest, including scheduling picking dates, managing labor needs, and overseeing the harvest process to ensure the grapes are harvested at their peak.
6.\tEquipment and Maintenance: Maintain and oversee the operation of vineyard equipment, including tractors, sprayers, and other machinery. Arrange for repairs and maintenance when necessary.
7.\tRecord Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized records of vineyard activities, including planting dates, pruning schedules, pest control measures, and harvest yields.
8.\tBudgeting and Cost Management: Assist in developing and managing the vineyard budget, including expenses related to labor, equipment, supplies, and maintenance.
9.\tSustainability Practices: Implement and promote sustainable and organic farming practices, striving for minimal environmental impact and a healthy ecosystem within the vineyard.
10.\tCollaboration: Collaborate with winemakers and cellar staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality grapes that meet the desired characteristics for winemaking. Support Management in oversight of grape suppliers. Coordinate with the Tasting Room staff to contribute to a pleasant and unique customer experience.
Qualifications:
•\tPrevious experience in vineyard management or related field.
•\tStrong knowledge of viticulture practices, including planting, pruning, canopy management, and pest control.
•\tFamiliarity with sustainable and organic farming practices.
•\tStrong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
•\tAbility to lead and manage a small team effectively.
•\tExcellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
•\tProficiency in operating and maintaining vineyard equipment.
•\tStrong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
•\tPhysical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in varying and challenging weather conditions.
•\tFlexibility to adapt to changing priorities and seasonal demands.
•\tDegree in Viticulture, Horticulture, Agriculture, or related field (preferred but not required).
•\tValid AZ driver’s license and clean ADOT report required for company vehicle use.
•\tWorking hours are variable based on seasonal activity and weather.
