Director of Water / Wastewater Engineering

Kforce's client, an established and growing engineering firm in the Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area is seeking a Director of Water/Wastewater Engineering to lead and expand its Water/Wastewater practice. This search is being conducted in direct partnership with the hiring manager. This position is 100% onsite. Overview: The Director of Water/Wastewater Engineering will provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership for the firm's Water/Wastewater Department. This role combines client engagement, team leadership, project oversight, and business development, with responsibility for driving continued growth across municipal and private-sector markets. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, manage, and mentor the Water/Wastewater Department, overseeing a team of approximately 6-8 engineers and technical staff
• Serve as a senior technical leader, providing guidance and quality oversight across projects
• Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal and private clients, as well as local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
• Represent the firm through effective presentations to city councils, community groups, and selection committees
• Drive marketing and business development initiatives to grow the department, working closely with the Business Development Director and President
• Supervise staff performance, including hiring, coaching, and conducting performance reviews
• Define project scopes, develop schedules and work plans, and identify required subconsultants
• Prepare and negotiate fee proposals
• Maintain and expand existing client relationships while developing new business opportunities
• Ensure accurate project documentation for both client and internal purposes
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or higher) from an accredited institution
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; Out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain licensure within six months
• 12+ years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 10 years in project management
• Demonstrated experience delivering municipal water and wastewater projects
• Strong local market knowledge with established client relationships in the Phoenix metro area is preferred
• Proven leadership experience managing and developing engineering teams is highly preferred
