Project Manager (Phoenix)

Brunel is currently searching for a Project Manager II for a long-term contract position with our mining client. This role will be located in Phoenix and will require frequent travel to mine sites throughout Arizona. While local candidates to Phoenix are preferred, out of area candidates will be considered on a 4x1 rotational basis * .

Description:

This contractor position will support various Stay-in-Business projects. The role is responsible for full project lifecycle management, beginning with project concept, definition, and design, through execution planning, scheduling, constructability reviews, procurement, field execution, commissioning, and handover to site operations. A strong focus on health and safety, environmental protection, and effective labor relations is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage execution of major mining and metallurgical process facilities projects by working with corporate and site-based teams to define scope, budgets, and schedules for safe and efficient delivery.
  • Assemble and coordinate required resources, both internal and external, for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Lead project planning, conceptual and detailed engineering, procurement, contracting, field installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies with emphasis on safety, cost control, schedule compliance, and constructability.
  • Oversee third-party consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with contractual, technical, and safety requirements.
  • Establish productive working relationships and communication across project teams, contractors, and site leadership.
  • Ensure robust QA/QC processes are implemented to monitor quality across all aspects of project delivery.
  • Monitor progress against budget and schedule; implement corrective actions to address variances.
  • Drive health, safety, and environmental programs, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Handles moderately complex issues, implementing solutions independently while delegating routine tasks as appropriate.
  • Accountable for cost, schedule, quality, and HSE performance of assigned projects.
  • Works closely with managers, functional leaders, EPCMs, contractors, and external partners.
  • Operates under limited supervision with significant latitude to set objectives, priorities, and timelines.
  • Direct responsibility for assigned project budgets and schedules.
  • Oversees supervisors, managers, senior professional staff, consultants, EPCMs, and contractors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering or related field with at least 10 years of experience in project and construction management; OR
  • High School diploma/GED with 15+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in project and construction management.
  • Strong knowledge of project management, engineering, project controls, contract administration, procurement, logistics, construction, and contracting.
  • Proven track record managing mining, heavy industrial, or capital projects valued at $500M+.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • MUST HAVE previous mining experience and being part of project development from inception to completion.
  • Prior EPCM experience, including design office and field management.
  • Heavy industrial construction project management experience.
  • Knowledge of Lean Construction practices and advanced construction planning.
  • Strong background in heavy machinery installations.
  • Understanding of labor requirements, forecasting, and contractor management.
  • Experience setting and tracking KPIs on a daily basis.
  • Extensive field-based experience across multiple disciplines.
  • Collaborative team player across owner, EPCM, and contractor groups.
  • MUST be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer without the need for sponsorship.

Position is based on a weekly rate commensurate with experience. Brunel contractors are offered medical, dental and vision which start on your first day of employment, along with a 401K match and PTO.

* This role can be offered on a 4x1 rotation if outside of the Phoenix area. You will work 4 weeks in Phoenix with one week off. Single-status, fully furnished accommodations provided along with travel to and from home, rental car and monthly stipend.
