Shelter Clinic Manager
The Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) – the largest and oldest no-kill shelter in Arizona – is seeking a Shelter Clinic Manager.
The Shelter Clinic Manager plans, organizes, and directs all day-to-day activities at our AAWL Shelter Clinic (serving homeless pets). The Shelter Clinic Manager is responsible for establishing daily processes for greater clinic efficiency and facilitating improvements to help meet medical clinic goals. Duties include hiring, onboarding, mentoring and supervising clinic staff, overseeing the use of practice software to ensure proper accounting and record-keeping of both client records and grant funds, managing the Clinic budgets, and monitoring medical-related performance indicators to assess how we’re saving animals’ lives, operationalizing values and creating a positive workplace culture.
The Shelter Clinic Manager reports to the Veterinary Services Senior Manager and works full-time. This is an exempt position. The department is staffed 7 days a week from 7am to 6:30pm; while there is scheduling flexibility within those hours, this is a 5 day per week position that does require one Saturday per month.
Responsibilities
• Plans and organizes all personnel activities, hiring/onboarding/training staff and coordinating performance reviews.
• In consultation with Senior Manager and VP or Director, sets and periodically reviews salaries and benefits.
• Ensures proper training of staff and team building for all staff.
• Works with Senior Manager to take an active role in practice staff meetings, promoting teamwork and cross-departmental collaboration.
• Resolves problems related to the facility and resolves client concerns or interpersonal staff issues.
• Ensures proper procedures are in place for animal handling, disease control, and patient care.
• Ensures Standard Operating Procedures are followed and updated as needed. Shelter and infirm foster
• Ensures clinic have proper working equipment and supplies and that they’re in compliance with all regulations and codes.
• Reviews budgets and monthly financial statements.
• Supervises usage of practice software (Pet Point) to ensure that patient records are entered consistently and correctly.
• Designs and administers safety and security regulations and training.
• Works with Manager for Community Vet Clinic to collaborate on programs, training, and scheduling
• Attends population rounds 1-2 times/week to monitor shelter pets and reduce length of stay
• Work with Senior manager to maintain hospitals inventory, ordering, and receiving. This may include auditing of controlled drugs
• Collaborate with referral veterinary services for shelter patients needing specialty and emergency care
• Maintain and help grow volunteer relationships within medical and surgery departments.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
• At least three years of experience managing healthcare operations in a wide range of clinical settings (veterinary or human health). Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, including managing staff.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) would be beneficial but not required.
• Veterinary Technician experience preferred but not required
• Experience developing and adhering to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Experience/understanding of full-service veterinary operations. Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proficient in computer applications, including Outlook, Excel, MS Office Suite, PowerPoint, and databases.
• Ability to adapt to change and accept new duties within a fast-growing organization; and ability to work with diverse individuals within the organization and broader community.

Employment Details
• Salary range is $60,600 to $70,700.
