About the Role:

The Special Education Teacher/Coordinator is a dual-purpose role that combines classroom teaching with program coordination. Working under the guidance of the SPED Director and with the support of the SPED Support Specialist , you will ensure that Pinnacle’s Special Education program effectively serves students while staying compliant with state and federal regulations.


This role emphasizes:

  • Direct instruction for students requiring specially designed instruction (SDI).
  • Coordination of IEPs and services in collaboration with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
  • Program-level support , ensuring smooth communication between the SPED Director, staff, families, and the Arizona Department of Education.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Student Support:

  • Provide specially designed instruction (SDI) for grades 6–12, across both online and site-based settings.
  • Adapt and deliver curriculum to meet diverse learning needs, integrating assistive technologies as appropriate.
  • Support students’ social and emotional growth while fostering inclusive, engaging learning environments.

IEP Coordination & Compliance:

  • Lead IEP meetings as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative when designated by the SPED Director.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, progress monitoring, and timely implementation of IEPs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and agencies to align services with student goals.
  • Work closely with the SPED Support Specialist to maintain compliance files and reporting accuracy.

Collaboration & Program Support:

  • Serve as a key link between general education staff, the SPED Director, and families regarding student needs and services.
  • Provide guidance and informal professional development to teachers on inclusive practices and differentiation strategies.
  • Assist the SPED Director with program reviews, audits, and improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the SPED Support Specialist to ensure timely submission of state and federal reports.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (required).
  • Current Arizona Special Education Certificate (required).
  • Master’s degree in Education, Administration, or related field (preferred).

Experience:

  • 3+ years of classroom teaching or equivalent, with strong emphasis in Special Education.
  • Experience coordinating IEPs and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with Arizona SPED compliance and reporting requirements.

Certifications:

  • Current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Familiarity with IEPPRO software (preferred).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and Arizona state SPED regulations.
  • Strong instructional strategies for diverse learners, including the use of assistive technology.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and SPED management systems.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with parents, staff, and agencies.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor peers and foster collaborative, student-centered practices.
