Overview:Basic Function
The Line Cook position is responsible for preparing menu items according to established recipes, maintaining quality and consistency in food preparation, and adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. Collaboration with other kitchen staff is essential to ensure smooth workflow and timely service.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with established recipes and standards.
- Ensure that all food products are of the highest quality and cooked to perfection.
- Always adhere to proper food handling and safety guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including storage areas and equipment.
- Collaborate with other kitchen team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely service.
- Monitor food supplies and equipment and report any issues or shortages to the kitchen supervisor.
- Follow all sanitation and hygiene procedures to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, while maintaining an elevated level of attention to detail.
- Food handler's certification required
Marginal Functions
- Assist with inventory management.
- General side work, including but not limited to, cleaning kitchen equipment, polishing, and sweeping.
- Respond to any reasonable task as assigned by supervisor or manager on duty.
- Help in other areas of the restaurant and kitchen, including stewarding.
Works well with support departments to ensure timely, high-quality food preparation
Maintains a positive, professional attitude—even in fast-paced, high-stress environments
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
Comfortable working near hot equipment and on slippery surfaces
Able to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and lifting (up to 100 lbs; carry up to 50 lbs)
Clear and effective in listening, speaking, and writing in English
Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen cleanliness standards
Solid understanding of cooking techniques, prep methods, and kitchen equipment operation
Ability to work quickly without compromising quality
Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset and effective communication
Must be available to work mornings, weekends, and holidays
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Culinary degree or certification from an accredited school preferred
2–3 years of culinary experience in a line cook or similar role in hospitality preferred
