Position Overview
The Employee Relations Specialist / HR Generalist is responsible for managing a broad range of employee relations activities while serving as a key resource for managers and employees throughout the organization. This role will provide guidance on workplace concerns, employee counseling, FMLA administration, policy interpretation, performance management support, and compliance matters.
The ideal candidate is a relationship-focused HR professional with strong employee relations experience and a passion for helping employees and leaders navigate workplace challenges effectively and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HR resource for employee relations matters across approximately 20 branch locations.
- Counsel employees and managers regarding workplace concerns, policy interpretation, and performance-related issues.
- Investigate and resolve employee complaints while ensuring fair and consistent application of company policies.
- Administer FMLA and other leave-related processes.
- Participate in new employee orientation and onboarding activities.
- Advise leaders on personnel actions, employee performance concerns, and corrective action processes.
- Assist in the development and implementation of employee relations policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee records and sensitive HR information.
- Manage assigned HR projects from planning through implementation.
- Support payroll, HRIS, benefits, and timekeeping processes as needed.
- Prepare reports and personnel-related documentation for management and regulatory purposes.
Required Qualifications
Certification Requirement (Required)
Candidates must possess one of the following active HR certifications:
- PHR (Professional in Human Resources)
- SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources)
- SHRM-CP
- SHRM-SCP
Candidates without a current PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-equivalent certification will not be considered.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of Human Resources experience with a primary focus on employee relations
- Proven experience counseling employees and managers on workplace issues
- Experience handling employee investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management matters
- Strong understanding of employment law and HR compliance
- Bachelor's degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting multi-site operations
- Payroll, timekeeping, and HRIS experience
- Experience within financial services, banking, credit unions, or regulated industries
- FMLA administration experience
- Strong project management skills
