The Mental Health Specialist will provide hands-on support to youth and young adults (ages 12–24) at Melabiz Community Hub through engagement, workshops, and day-to-day interaction. This role is focused on building relationships, supporting emotional wellness, and creating a safe, supportive environment for young people.

This is not a traditional office-based role. We are looking for someone who can actively engage with youth, lead group activities, and be present in both structured programming and drop-in settings.

This is a contract position through June 30, 2026 , with the possibility of extension based on performance and program needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build genuine relationships with youth through daily interaction, mentorship, and support
• Facilitate and co-facilitate workshops focused on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and life skills
• Engage with youth during drop-in hours, group programming, and leadership activities
• Provide non-clinical mental health support and guidance
• Support crisis situations through de-escalation and connecting youth to appropriate resources
• Assist with planning and leading group activities, discussions, and youth-centered programming
• Participate in light community outreach and engagement (events, partner sites, off-site programming)
• Collaborate with staff to support youth goals and overall program success
• Maintain basic documentation of participation and interactions as required

Qualifications:

• Experience working with youth, young adults, or high-risk populations (required)
• Strong ability to connect with youth in real, relatable ways
• Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or youth programming
• Knowledge of mental health, trauma-informed care, or behavioral support strategies
• Ability to remain calm and supportive in high-stress situations
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, youth-centered environment

Preferred (but not required):

• Background in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field
• Experience with justice-involved youth, foster care, or community-based programs
• CPR/First Aid or crisis intervention training

Additional Requirements:

• Must be available during program hours, including evenings
• Must be comfortable working in both center-based and community settings
