Scope of Position
Our client is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead all aspects of plant quality operations within a fast-paced packaging manufacturing facility. This leadership role is responsible for driving quality performance, ensuring regulatory and customer compliance, developing robust quality systems, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the plant.
As a key member of the plant leadership team, the Quality Manager will collaborate closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and Production to ensure products consistently meet the highest standards for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong manufacturing background, proven experience leading quality teams, and a passion for operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Lead and manage the plant's quality management system, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, GMPs, regulatory requirements, and internal quality standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures, inspection methods, and process control systems.
- Monitor critical control points and quality metrics to improve product consistency and eliminate defects.
- Ensure compliance with customer audits, certifications, sanitation requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Champion food safety, workplace safety, and quality initiatives throughout the facility.
Customer & Supplier Quality
- Interpret customer quality requirements and translate them into manufacturing processes and inspection standards.
- Manage customer complaints, conduct root cause investigations, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyze complaint trends and quality data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Partner with suppliers to establish quality expectations and ensure material compliance.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Lead, mentor, and develop the plant quality team through coaching, training, and performance management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve product quality, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop standardized quality procedures and best practices across manufacturing operations.
- Regularly communicate plant quality performance, trends, and improvement initiatives to leadership and cross-functional teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Logistics, Sales, and Customer Service to resolve quality issues and improve manufacturing performance.
- Support new product launches, process improvements, and quality validation activities.
- Participate as a key member of the plant leadership team, supporting overall operational performance, safety, and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Five or more years of progressive quality leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems, GMPs, process controls, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience leading customer audits, supplier quality initiatives, and regulatory compliance programs.
- Proven ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing quality teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing quality systems.
- Ability to travel up to 25% as business needs require.
