Supervisory Social Worker

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Education: Master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited
  • A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for master's degree in social work
  • Licensure: Candidate must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination - unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California - which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure
  • May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)
  • Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements - applicants must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level
  • Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment
  • In addition to the experience above - candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work - set priorities - and meet multiple deadlines
  • Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision - consultation - negotiation with other departments and quality improvement
  • Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services
  • Ability to provide staff training and development
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees - team leaders - and managers
  • Preferred Experience: Ability to provide clinical supervision
  • Over two years of experience working with homeless populations

  • The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12
  • Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary but also demands standing - walking - bending - twisting - and carrying light items
  • Must possess a current Driver's License and drive a government vehicle in carrying out professional duties when deemed necessary.

Duties

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Has full authority and responsibility for managing and coordinating the program and staff - including performance standards - clinical skill evaluations - workload assessments - competencies - and personnel duties
  • Oversee the program's operations within assigned areas - controlling data related to daily activities and evaluations
  • In partnership with the HUD-VASH Program Coordinator - they plan - organize - and direct administrative - operational - and personnel activities
  • Assist HUD-VASH Case Managers in Veteran care within the SAVAHCS catchment area
  • Review agreements with landlords - Public Housing Authorities - and VA for appropriate referral sites
  • Conduct site visits to ensure housing safety and compliance
  • Collect and submit participant data as per NEPEC procedures
  • Provide case management services to support Veterans in maintaining stable housing
  • Advocate for Veterans - facilitates comprehensive service delivery - and links Veterans to VA and community resources
  • Ensure adherence to conflict of interest laws
  • Participate in HUD-VASH conferences and training
  • Contribute to program planning and recommend policy adjustments based on caseload trends
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community agencies to improve healthcare services for HUD-VASH Veterans
  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday - 07:30 a.m

  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment - full time employees with a total family income below $144 -000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
