What you will do
As a hospital Prep Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and portioning ingredients for the kitchen team to use in creating nutritious meals from scratch for patients, visitors, and staff. Your role involves following recipes, maintaining cleanliness standards, and supporting the kitchen's efficiency. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, and committed to upholding high standards of food quality and safety in a healthcare environment.
Ingredient Preparation: Wash, peel, chop, and portion ingredients according to recipe specifications.
Recipe Adherence: Follow standardized recipes and portion sizes to ensure consistency and quality in meal preparation.
Inventory Management: Assist with inventory control by monitoring ingredient levels and informing kitchen staff of any shortages or discrepancies.
Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the prep area, including equipment and utensils, following health and safety regulations.
Kitchen Support: Support kitchen staff with various tasks, including food prep, stocking supplies, and organizing storage areas.
Quality Control: Inspect ingredients for freshness and quality, discarding any items that do not meet standards.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Assist with special projects, events, and additional tasks as needed to support the overall operations and goals of the community.
What you will need
Previous experience as a prep cook or kitchen assistant, preferably in a healthcare or culinary environment.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including proper handling and storage of ingredients.
Ability to follow recipes and portion sizes accurately.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training or certification is a plus.
A positive attitude and willingness to work collaboratively with kitchen staff to meet meal preparation goals.
