About the Role:
The Diesel Mechanic plays a critical leadership role within the transportation and warehousing industry, overseeing the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and safety. This position is responsible for managing a team of skilled mechanics, coordinating maintenance schedules, and implementing best practices to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of fleet assets. The role requires strategic planning to optimize resource allocation, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and safety standards. The Head Diesel Mechanic serves as a technical expert and mentor, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team. Ultimately, this position ensures that all diesel machinery operates at peak performance, supporting the overall success and reliability of transportation operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in diesel mechanics or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance.
- Proven leadership experience managing a team of mechanics or technicians.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards in the transportation industry.
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in automotive technology, mechanical engineering, or related discipline.
- Certification from recognized bodies such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) in diesel engines.
- Experience with fleet management software and maintenance tracking systems.
- Demonstrated ability to implement continuous improvement initiatives and lean maintenance practices.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of technicians to maintain high standards of workmanship and safety.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and repair protocols for diesel engines and related equipment.
- Diagnose complex mechanical issues and oversee their timely and effective resolution.
- Manage inventory of parts and tools, ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with operations and safety teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Conduct regular training sessions to keep the team updated on the latest diesel technologies and repair techniques.
- Analyze performance data to identify trends and implement improvements in maintenance processes.
