Duty Schedule:

Monday – Friday; 40 hour per week; Rotating schedule by semesters

Summary/Objective of Position:

The entry-level position requires performing daily assigned routines to ensure cleanliness and safety of Dine College students, staff, faculty, and the general public. Routines include sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disposing of items, disinfecting, sanitizing, lifting, walking, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and/or moving, indoor/outdoor work, and duties varying from simple to complex.

  • Keeping restrooms restocked with toilet paper, hand towels, and making sure the soap is full.
  • Reporting the conditions of the restrooms to the Supervisor, in case of leaks, clogged drains, or broken items.
  • Sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors.
  • Replacing trash liners in waste baskets and trash containers, collecting trash and debris in all designated areas, and placing all trash and collection for removal by the sanitation truck.
  • Maintain a clean environment for students, staff, faculty, and the public community.
  • Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and sanitize all areas of campus, centers, and properties.
  • Clean inside and outside of buildings, offices, classrooms, common areas, dormitories, student and staff housing, and all areas associated with Diné College.
  • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors daily, including stairways.
  • Vacuum carpets in offices and public areas. Wipe and dust furniture such as desks, tables, chairs, book and exhibit cases, door trims, and whiteboards.
  • Clean all checked-out equipment upon returning (floor scrubber, spin bonnet, extracting and buffing machines).
  • Keeping up with maintenance on all machines, such as adjusting and changing the brushes, rollers, and other attachments.
  • Wiping and dusting all windows, blinds, and ceiling fixtures.
  • Low and high dusting.
  • Washing all the interior and exterior windows and window sills.
  • Cleaning off scuffs, graffiti, and markings from interior and exterior walls.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assisting with and setting up for College Events and/or other approved events.
  • Please note that this position requires the ability to use and maintain proper cleaning equipment for custodian tasks.
  • Must be able to work in a team concept environment and adapt to new areas of the facilities, must be able to maintain a simple inventory count of custodial equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Compliance with the handling/disposal of restricted or environmentally hazardous materials, perform tasks safely, and have awareness of the usage of chemical safety data sheets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.

Preferred:

  • At least two (2) years of work experience in Custodial or Housekeeping is desired.
  • Must be willing and able to learn new skills, abilities, and techniques as they relate to custodial duties and tasks.

Knowledge:

  • Must have custodial knowledge.
  • Must have computer/tablet knowledge.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of chemical use.
  • Must be able to write and read.

Skills:

  • Must be able to follow instructions and directions given by the supervisor and team leads.
  • Must be able to meet and coordinate with coworkers, staff, and supervisor, courteously and respectfully.
  • Must have communication and networking skills.
  • Must be able to work well with others.

Abilities:

  • Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to read and write (English).
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to handle and control heavy powered equipment and do minor maintenance on the eqipments.
  • Able to move and lift heavy objects ranging up to 50+ pounds.
  • Must be dependable and reliable to carry out assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to log into the computer to check emails.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

  • Handle and control heavy powered equipment and do minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Move and lift heavy objects ranging up to 50+ pounds.
  • Shoveling snow and ice removal.

Other Requirement(s):

  • Must possess and maintain a Valid State Driver's License.
  • Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
