Position Summary: The Lead Inserter Operator is responsible for setting up, training, and assisting the inserter operators in producing quality product, accurately in a timely manner. This role entails conducting thorough quality checks, ensuring adequate availability of products for inserter jobs, and maintaining effective communication with both production and administrative staff. The Lead Inserter Operator plays a pivotal role in upholding precision and adherence to established guidelines and procedures, emphasizing the importance of consistent, detailed work in the inserter operations. Effective communication skills and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality are integral aspects of this leadership role.

Essential Job Functions (include but are not limited to):

  • Meet with managers daily for schedule, job progress, tasks
  • Read job tickets and properly document both counts of product and times that job was produced into the shop floor data system (Tharstern)
  • Maintain accurate counts of inventory including parts and supplies
  • Work with temp agency to keep accurate counts of temp employees on the floor as needed and ensure that they are assigned to the correct inserter
  • Update managers throughout the day of completed quantities of each machine that is scheduled in production
  • Train new operators and provide them with all the information and tools needed
  • Work with the W+D technician to ensure all inserters are up to date on any software updates and maintenance
  • Source correct materials for job according to job ticket
  • Constantly monitor quality of finished product
  • Oversee and verify that all maintenance is up to date on all inserters
  • Assist with housekeeping in the inserting area
  • Follow all required safety procedures such as: PPE's, Ergonomics, Chemical Hazards, etc. Performs job in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees
  • Maintain production charts and records
  • Give direction to inserter crew through production and downtime
  • Provide leadership as required
  • Provide input to supervisor for evaluations
  • Follows all company policies and procedures
  • Complete and demonstrate a full understanding of ongoing training concepts and applications

Requirements:

Education/Skills/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 2 years working in a production facility, preferably on inserting equipment
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and meets deadlines
  • Good interpersonal and customer contact skills
  • Good written/verbal communication skills

Physical requirements:

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently stoop, kneel, or bend over
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Talk and hear, both in person and by telephone
  • Read and interpret documents in English such as job tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Write routine reports and correspondence in English
  • Speak in English effectively before groups of workers
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Willingness to train in other departments
  • During election cycles, this position may be required to work up to 12-hour shifts and up to 7 days a week

Work Environment:

  • Primarily indoors, controlled temperature environment
  • While performing in this environment the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Ability to work in a plant work environment with a variation of noise levels to include high to moderate noise due to hand tools, machinery, heavy equipment, forklift, crane, hoist, pallet jack, alarms, and general conversations
  • This position will be working with office equipment such as computer, printer, scanner, copy/fax machine, and telephone
  • Ability to work at a consistent pace
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate in a professional manner
  • Sustains housekeeping standards in accordance with appearance guidelines

Safety Requirements:

  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, property, or equipment damage
  • Comply with all company and customer OSHA, safety policies, procedures, rules, and best practices
  • Report any unsafe task, operation, or safety hazards immediately
  • Participate in ongoing safety meetings and training
  • Be constantly aware of personal safety and that of coworkers
  • Ability to use and operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment required for work safely and effectively

Training to be completed:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the vision, goals, and objectives of the business
  • All relevant Company Business System software
  • Company Learning Management System software
  • Successfully complete continuing education required to maintain knowledge of systems and programs

Certificates/Licenses:

  • Must be able to pass all applicable background checks
