MEP Estimator
At Okland, we exist to create remarkable experiences — not just through the projects we deliver, but in the way we show up for our clients, partners, and each other every day. We believe that how we build is just as important as what we build, and our purpose is rooted in people. Whether it's a trusted partner we’ve worked with for decades or a new team member stepping onto their first jobsite, we approach every relationship with care, clarity, and commitment.
We’re a commercial general contractor and construction management company with more than 1,200 team members and a track record of delivering some of the most complex and high-profile projects in the country — from semiconductor and healthcare facilities to professional sports venues and high-end hospitality.
Founded in 1918 in Salt Lake City, we’ve grown steadily for over a century — now with offices in Utah, Arizona, and Idaho — and we’re entering one of the most exciting chapters in our company’s history. We’re building more than projects. We’re building careers, capabilities, and momentum for the future. And we’re looking for passionate, driven people who want to be part of it.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Are you a seasoned MEP Estimator with a passion for tackling complex, high-value projects? We're looking for someone like you to join our preconstruction team as a MEP Estimator. In this role, you'll take the lead on estimating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for large-scale commercial and institutional projects valued at over $150 million. If you bring deep technical expertise, sharp analytical thinking, and a strong track record of delivering accurate, competitive estimates on major builds, we’d love to connect with you.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY

- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive MEP cost estimates.
- Collaborate with general estimators, design teams, and subcontractors to ensure accurate scope and pricing.
- Develop and maintain unit cost databases and historical cost data for MEP systems.
- Conduct value engineering and cost-saving analysis without compromising design intent or performance.
- Participate in design-assist and design-build project delivery methods.
- Evaluate and level subcontractor bids and proposals for MEP scopes.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed.
- Provide constructability reviews and identify potential risks and opportunities in MEP systems.
- Stay current with industry trends, codes, and technologies in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
YOU’RE READY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in MEP estimating, with at least 5 years on projects over $150 million.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical distribution, fire protection, plumbing, and building automation systems.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Trimble, WinEst, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar.
- Familiarity with BIM and 3D modeling tools for quantity takeoffs and coordination.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with mission-critical facilities, healthcare, life sciences, or high-rise commercial projects.
- Professional certifications such as LEED AP, ASPE (American Society of Professional Estimators), or PMP.
- Knowledge of local and national building codes and MEP regulations.
