Role Overview
The Pouch Department Lead assists in steering the daily operations of the pouch department while safely operating advanced manufacturing equipment. This position provides hands-on leadership to department personnel, ensuring production goals, quality standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications are consistently achieved. Beyond daily operations, this role involves basic machinery maintenance, team training, workflow coordination, and driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the department.
Important Requirement: Hands-on operation and troubleshooting experience with Totani pouch-making equipment is preferred for this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Guidance
Lead, coach, and support pouch department personnel to foster a safe, highly productive, and positive work environment.
Assign daily tasks based on production schedules, shifting demands, and department priorities.
Monitor employee performance , providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and structured training.
Promote teamwork , individual accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Communicate effectively by providing production updates, equipment status reports, and shift priorities to management and incoming shifts.
⚙️ Production & Technical Operations
Operate Totani and/or Hudson Sharp pouch-making equipment as needed, providing expert technical support and troubleshooting guidance to operators.
Coordinate machine setups and changeovers to maximize efficiency, optimize production schedules, and minimize downtime.
Read, interpret, and execute instructions from job jackets, manufacturing specifications, pouch specifications, and print specification sheets.
Monitor production output closely to ensure all delivery schedules and productivity benchmarks are met.
Safely operate roll-handling equipment to load and unload production materials.
Education and Experience
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience: 1+ Years preferred of hands-on experience operating Totani and/or Hudson Sharp pouch-making equipment within a flexible packaging manufacturing environment.
Equipment Requirement: Direct, practical experience with Totani equipment is required to be considered for this leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Technical Expertise: Deep operational knowledge and mechanical aptitude specific to Totani and Hudson Sharp pouch-making machinery.
Troubleshooting: Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills to resolve process and equipment issues efficiently.
Material Knowledge: Working familiarity with various flexible packaging materials, films, and pouch manufacturing processes.
Blueprint & Spec Reading: Ability to precisely read and interpret manufacturing specifications, technical documents, and complex production orders.
Organization: Proven ability to prioritize workflows and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
Mathematics: Strong basic math skills, including the ability to calculate precise measurements, percentages, and key production metrics.
Physical Requirements
Mobility: Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance throughout an 8-to-12 hour shift.
Lifting: Ability to safely and frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: Ability to work comfortably in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to industrial noise, moving mechanical parts, and varying ambient temperatures.
