Electric Utility Safety Officer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
- Certified Safety Professional preferred.
- Certified Utility Safety Professional preferred.
- 3 years of safety training or electrical field experience.
- Journeyman Lineman/Electrician required.
- Valid Driver's License (subject to motor vehicle record review)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
- Administers and promotes the Authority's safety program. Implements and coordinates all safety and health activities such as employee safety awareness program, safety and health education, and reinforces safety rules and regulations.
- Collaborates with other departments on related matters such as use of industrial materials, working environments, industrial hygiene and safety program.
- Assists in administering health programs.
- Conducts first-aid, defensive driving, safety training, and other certification classes for employees.
- Investigates injuries, property damage and accidents. Reviews reports identifying unsafe conditions and acts, and prepares written finalized report outlining the findings, recommendation of corrective and preventive measures.
- Conducts announced and unannounced audits for safety inspection of work areas and job sites.
- Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day and seven days a week, or when needed. Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, maintains order, protects property and promotes safe actions on scene.
- Administers basic first aid to employee with minor medical injuries.
- Analyzes inspection audit findings to make recommendations on equipment, operations and related safety training.
- Identifies required safety equipment to be used or worn. Coordinates with finance, purchasing, warehouse and staff on the purchase, storage and issuance of approved safety equipment and products.
- Acts as Subject Mater Expert for Safety training content development. Instructs safety and technical training.
- Acts as Subject Matter Experts for utility safety education for community and public outreach.
- Develops and implements of plans and procedures on building safety plan, emergency procedures, and hazardous material handling.
- Coordinates motor vehicle safety programs.
- Participates in company-wide safety meetings, safety committee meetings or proactive safety activities.
- Prepares and distributes correspondence, trend analysis statistical summaries, reports, agendas, memos, forms, directories, other documents and communications from drafts, recordings, or verbal instruction.
- Prepares and distributes safety and health educational materials and information.
- Conducts employee testing as needed or required, including drug and alcohol, pulmonary functions, self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Sets up and maintains files and records which may contain confidential information.
- Promotes a positive Safety Culture through education, outreach, and collaboration with employees and the management team.
- Maintain all required environmental records and documentation.
- Supply, operate, or maintain personal protective equipment.
- Assists with development of departmental budget, procedures and practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
