Data Center Architect

MetroSys
Phoenix, AZ

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Architect to lead the planning, design, and execution of complex data center migration initiatives. This role is responsible for developing migration strategies that minimize risk and downtime while ensuring scalability, performance, and security. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in data center infrastructure, virtualization, storage, networking, and cloud integration, and can operate confidently in fast-paced, transformation-driven environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead end-to-end data center migration strategies, including on-prem to on-prem, data center consolidation, and hybrid or cloud-adjacent migrations.

  • Assess existing data center environments, dependencies, and risks to develop detailed migration roadmaps and execution plans.

  • Architect target-state data center designs aligned with business, security, and compliance requirements.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, storage, security, and application teams to coordinate migration activities.

  • Define standards, best practices, and architectural frameworks for data center operations and future scalability.

  • Lead technical decision-making for virtualization platforms, storage architectures, networking, backup, and disaster recovery.

  • Oversee migration execution, cutover planning, validation, and post-migration optimization.

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to performance, availability, data integrity, and security during migrations.

  • Develop detailed documentation including architecture diagrams, runbooks, migration plans, and operational handoff materials.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering and operations teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in data center architecture, infrastructure engineering, or related technical leadership roles.

  • Proven experience leading large-scale data center migration or consolidation projects.

  • Strong expertise in virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar).

  • Deep knowledge of enterprise storage technologies (SAN, NAS, object storage).

  • Strong understanding of data center networking, including routing, switching, and load balancing.

  • Experience designing high-availability, disaster recovery, and backup architectures.

  • Ability to perform dependency mapping and impact analysis for complex environments.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hybrid cloud architectures (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).

  • Familiarity with automation and infrastructure-as-code tools.

  • Experience working in regulated environments (finance, healthcare, public sector).

  • Relevant certifications (VMware, cloud, data center, or architecture-focused certifications).
