Job Title: Selective Solder Machine Operator (SSM Operator)
Job Description
The Selective Solder Machine Operator supports printed circuit board assembly operations by setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining selective soldering equipment. This full-time production role ensures that electronic assemblies meet defined workmanship and quality standards while contributing to a stable and efficient manufacturing process.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor selective soldering machinery and related equipment to support printed circuit board assembly.
- Perform equipment setup, changeovers, tear-downs, and routine cleaning to maintain efficient and reliable operation.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues at the operator level and escalate complex concerns to the appropriate personnel when needed.
- Carry out operator-level preventive maintenance on selective soldering equipment to minimize downtime.
- Prepare and assemble electronic components into printed circuit board assemblies according to specifications.
- Conduct detailed visual inspections to verify correct component placement, polarity, and overall workmanship quality.
- Read and follow written work instructions, blueprints, and engineering drawings to complete production tasks accurately.
- Support additional production activities such as potting, wire stripping, and manual assembly as required.
- Stop production or reject assemblies when quality issues or nonconformances are identified, and report concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Collaborate with team members and leadership to meet production schedules and continuous improvement goals.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and follow written work instructions, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Experience working with machinery or manufacturing equipment (preferred but not required).
- Strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to quality workmanship.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills, including program loading, data entry, and responding to system alerts.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a production team.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical assembly skills relevant to production operations.
- Electronic assembly skills applicable to printed circuit board assembly.
- Blueprint reading skills to interpret technical documentation.
- Machine operation skills in a production or manufacturing setting.
- Technical or technology diploma (preferred).
- Experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Selective soldering or hand soldering experience, with familiarity with IPC Class 2 standards preferred.
- Knowledge of IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 standards for electronic assembly quality.
- Experience with component lead forming and handling of through-hole components.

Work Environment
This full-time role is based in a production environment with flexible shifts that may include day, afternoon, midnight, weekends, and overtime as required by business needs. You will stand for extended periods and regularly lift up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. The position involves occasional bending, squatting, and repetitive movements while working around moving machinery and moderate noise levels. You may work with chemicals commonly used in electronics manufacturing. Visual acuity is important, including close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for detailed inspection of printed circuit board assemblies. Standard production-floor attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to support a safe and efficient workplace.

This is a Contract position based out of Tempe, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
