Dog Trainer (North Phoenix, AZ)
About the Role:
We’re looking for a motivated Dog Trainer to join our team in North Phoenix, AZ . This role is ideal for an experienced trainer who enjoys helping dogs and their owners succeed through clear communication, consistency, and positive training methods. Prior leadership/management experience in a training or pet care setting is a plus , and we’re also open to trainers who are interested in growing into a lead or management track .
Pay: Negotiable based on experience - $25+/hr.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct private training sessions and/or group classes (based on business needs)
- Evaluate dog behavior and create customized training plans
- Coach pet parents on proper handling, reinforcement, and at-home follow-through
- Implement training using humane, effective methods (positive reinforcement preferred)
- Track progress and maintain clear session notes and recommendations
- Support behavior modification plans for common issues (leash pulling, reactivity, barking, jumping, basic manners, etc.)
- Maintain a safe, clean training environment and follow safety protocols
- Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent handling and customer experience
Leadership Opportunity (Preferred, Not Required)
Depending on experience and interest, this role may include:
- Mentoring junior trainers or assisting with onboarding
- Helping standardize training plans, class formats, and customer communication
- Supporting scheduling, class rosters, and quality control
- Contributing to team development and operational improvements
(Leadership responsibilities are flexible and can grow over time.)
Qualifications:
- Experience training dogs in a professional, volunteer, or structured environment
- Strong customer service and communication skills (you’ll be coaching people as much as dogs)
- Working knowledge of basic obedience training and common behavior challenges
- Reliable transportation and ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings/weekends may be needed)
Preferred (not required):
- Previous leadership/management experience in dog training, boarding/daycare, grooming, or pet retail
- Certifications such as CPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, IAABC, or similar
- Group class instruction experience
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle dogs of various sizes/temperaments
- Comfortable working indoors/outdoors depending on season and training setup
