The Barista role focuses on preparing and serving a variety of high-quality coffee beverages and food items while delivering warm, attentive customer service in a hospital café. This position helps create a welcoming and comforting environment for hospital staff, patients, and visitors by combining excellent hospitality, consistent product quality, and strict adherence to food safety and healthcare facility standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, espresso drinks, teas, and other beverages according to established recipes and standards.
- Deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced, service-oriented healthcare environment.
- Greet customers warmly, take accurate orders, and process transactions using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café, including beverage equipment, counters, and dining areas.
- Follow proper food safety and sanitation procedures in compliance with health regulations and facility guidelines.
- Restock supplies, monitor inventory levels, and promptly communicate any shortages to the appropriate team members.
- Support colleagues to ensure efficient daily operations and smooth service throughout each shift.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including safety and infection control standards.
- Create a positive, compassionate experience for guests by demonstrating empathy and professionalism in a hospital setting.
- Work an 8-hour shift scheduled between 5:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., including availability for weekends and holidays, and 5:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays as required.
Essential Skills
- Prior barista, café, or food service experience preferred but not required.
- Strong customer service and communication skills with a friendly, professional demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
- Basic math and cash-handling skills for accurate order processing and payment handling.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Flexible schedule, including availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Food Handler’s Card or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using espresso machines and preparing specialty coffee beverages.
- Familiarity with hospital or healthcare environments and related service expectations.
- Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional under pressure or during busy periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

Work Environment
This role is based in a hospital café serving staff, patients, and visitors in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on hospitality and service excellence. You will work around espresso machines, beverage equipment, and point-of-sale systems while consistently maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace. The environment places a high emphasis on cleanliness, safety, and compassion, in line with healthcare standards. Shifts are 8 hours in length and are scheduled between 5:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., with weekend and holiday coverage required, including shifts from 5:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Attire is expected to be professional, neat, and appropriate for a food service role in a healthcare setting, reflecting both hygiene and a welcoming appearance.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.13 - $17.13/hr.
