JOB BRIEF
Performs and supports the company’s accounting activities. Ensures integrity, timeliness, and accuracy of accounting information and data by reviewing, recording, and analyzing transactions according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Yardi software methodology, and Bella organizational requirements. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Provides leadership and support to fellow team members.

- Provides operational advice and training on the use of Yardi systems/modules to accounting staff and other users as applicable. Guides and assists other departments by clearly communicating current accounting policies and procedures as well as composing and disseminating new policies and procedures as necessary for process improvement.
- Works closely with other accounting department personnel to ensure accuracy and timeliness of department tasks and responsibilities including, but not limited to deposit accountings, accounts payable, account reconciliations, account analysis, journal entries, and validating proper account coding and/or entries and as needed, entering invoices, processing payments, and mailing payments to vendors and/or residents.
Financial/General
- Maintains general ledger records, creates journal entries and deposits and verifies business transactions to ensure they are recorded accurately, timely, and according to GAAP and Bella requirements; reconciles general ledger accounts and accounting modules monthly; reconciles bank accounts to general ledger monthly.
- Maintains and reconciles various general ledger account schedules as required, including mortgage/escrow/amortization schedules, prepaid expense accounts, and miscellaneous liabilities, etc.
- Resolves complex operational accounting issues and questions.
- Collects, analyzes, and balances/reconciles financial and statistical data as necessary.
- Analyzes and recommends modifications to internal control procedures and accounting systems, contributing to continuous improvement of processes.
- Assists the Accounting Manager in the preparation and updating of accounting operating policies and procedures, including preparing detailed flowcharts/process maps.
- Provides temporary supervision of accounting staff in the absence of the Accounting Manager.
- Develops and generates periodic financial statements, variance analysis reports, and other advanced analytics as required.
- Reviews and processes write-offs for past residents as part of monthly financial statement preparation.
- Prepares calculation for monthly management fees for applicable properties.
- Supervises and maintains up-to-date vendor files in Yardi.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Finance or accounting bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 4 years of accounting experience.
- Knowledge of computer and office communication systems required, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel, and Outlook; Yardi experience preferred.
- Previous property management experience preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Stand or walk or sit alternatively depending on specific needs of the day.
- Have occasional need to perform the following physical activities:
- Bend/Stoop Squat – Pick up litter, filing, open windows
- Climb Stairs – Accounting office located on second floor
- Push or Pull – Open and close doors
- Reach above shoulder – Store/retrieve supplies, open windows
- May have frequent need to perform standing and walking activities.
- Constant need to perform the following physical activities:
- Writing/Typing – Corporate communications
- Grasping/Turning – Telephone, doorknob use
- Finger Dexterity – Operation of office equipment
- Lifting/Carrying (paperwork, deliveries, files, boxes, miscellaneous)
VISION REQUIREMENTS:
- Constant need to complete forms, read and review reports and a wide variety of correspondence, view computer screen. Frequent need to see small detail.
- Frequent need to see things clearly beyond arm’s reach.
HEARING REQUIREMENTS:
Constant need to communicate over the telephone and in person with coworkers, corporate management, and vendors.
SPEAKING REQUIREMENTS:
Constant need to communicate over the telephone and in person.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Indoors, occasionally outdoors, all conditions.
- Occasional exposure to caustics, solvents, oils, fumes, flammables, pesticides, etc.
REASONING DEVELOPMENT:
- MODERATE/HIGH. Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to a variety of practical situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may occasionally involve minor deviations. Needs ability to think rationally beyond a specific set of instructions. Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and initiate appropriate course of action. Must effectively convey ideas, images and goals to a diverse group of personalities.
