Team Overview

As a Staff Accountant I, you are a vital part of the Finance team at ADF. In this role, you will report to the Accounting Manager and support the organization’s financial operations by managing daily accounting tasks, general ledger entries, account reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, accounts payable processing, and compliance activities. Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Operations:


  • Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist in maintaining an accurate and organized chart of accounts

  • Assist with revenue accounting, disbursements, accruals, and initiative-based transactions

  • Track and maintain fixed asset records, including capitalization, depreciation, and disposals, in accordance with accounting policies

  • Generate and review management reports to support internal financial planning and decision-making

Accounts Payable:


  • Process vendor invoices, team member reimbursements, and internal payment requests

  • Review and code invoices according to the chart of accounts

  • Prepare checks and electronic payments in accordance with policy and deadlines

  • Support the corporate credit card program, including issuance and reconciliations

  • Set up and maintain vendor records and ensure W-9 collection and 1099 reporting compliance

Compliance and Reporting Support:


  • Assist with annual audit preparation and IRS Form 990 documentation

  • Support state charitable solicitation registration efforts and document filings

  • Contribute to implementing and maintaining internal controls and process improvements

  • Support efforts to ensure alignment with ECFA standards and other financial compliance initiatives

Team and Administrative Support:


  • Maintain organized and secure financial files

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments and teams

  • Participate in identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy

  • You will be asked to perform related duties or special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

  • 2+ years of accounting experience (general ledger experience preferred).

  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles

  • Knowledge of general ledger systems and financial reporting

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with a high level of accuracy

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial team members

  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment is a plus.

  • Experience with enterprise-level accounting software preferred (e.g., Sage Intacct or similar)

  • CPA track or certification is a plus, but not required.
