BUILD THE MOVEMENT
FOR
HEALTH CARE JUSTICE
California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU) seeks an experienced Organizer to join its Nurses For Democracy team. This position involves distributed and community organizing to build coalitions and execute large-scale events as well as organize and mobilize internal union programming to advance the campaign to save our hospitals and our health care system nationally.
CNA/NNU is the nation's largest union of registered nurses, with nearly 225,000 members from all 50 states. We are a strong, progressive voice for nurses, patients, and health care workers around the world.
CNA/NNU is also one of the largest organizations in the country leading the movement for health care justice. Join this dynamic team of organizers to build local coalitions, organize community events, and recruit and support a grassroots base of volunteers that will join our campaign to save our health care.
Job Responsibilities
- Recruit, support, and build relationships with volunteers -- which includes both union members and community members -- to deliver the core goals of the campaign. This includes extensive time calling, texting, emailing, etc., in communication with volunteers.
- Train volunteers over Zoom on how to do key tasks like knocking on doors, sending texts, making phone calls, and more.
- Staff in-person community events in various cities across the country. Community events will include large-scale rallies and issue canvassing.
- Develop messaging to explain the community impacts of the health care cuts in H.R. 1, and effectively communicate the immediate need to protect health care access while simultaneously fighting for a better system like Medicare for All.
- Develop written campaign materials and content, such as emails, peer-to-peer texting scripts, webinars, and presentations, and more.
- Develop and execute outreach plans to engage allied organizations and build and maintain local coalitions.
- Embrace the sometimes tedious and repetitive tasks that are needed to keep volunteer teams thriving, such as making hours of recruitment calls to onboard new volunteers, staying on the phone with a volunteer to teach them how to use a key piece of organizing technology, and updating daily spreadsheet trackers.
Job Requirements/Qualifications
- 2-3 years of collective experience in community and distributive organizing.
- Experience with key organizing tools like Zoom, Google Apps, ActionKit, ThruText, Slack, etc.
- Proficient writer with the ability to meet short deadlines.
- Applicants with bilingual, multilingual skills are highly encouraged to apply.
- Proven effectiveness working with local leaders and organizations in one or more diverse communities.
- Experience organizing in working-class communities, communities of color, and marginalized communities is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to function well as part of a team and equally comfortable running solo tasks.
- Willingness to work hours and schedule as needed to complete projects and support organizational campaigns.
- A valid driver’s license.
- The ability to travel with regularity.
- Demonstrated commitment to social change.
- Commitment to organizational discipline.
Excellent salary $106,224 – $114,501, dependent on skills and experience. Generous benefits package, family and domestic partner coverage.
