About the Role:

The Overhaul Manual Lathe Machinist plays a critical role in the durable goods manufacturing process by expertly operating manual lathes to overhaul and repair aircraft components. This position requires a deep understanding of machining principles and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure parts meet stringent quality standards. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount to prevent defects and ensure the longevity of overhauled components. This is a DOT rated position. All employees in this department are subject to random drug testing.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a manual lathe machinist, preferably MRO of aircraft components.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
• Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational training in machining or a related field.
• Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.

Responsibilities:

• Operate manual lathes to overhaul and repair parts according to engineering drawings and SOW's.
• Inspect and measure components using precision instruments to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and adjustments on lathes and related equipment to maintain optimal performance.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used, measurements, and any deviations from specifications.
• Adhere strictly to safety guidelines and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.

Skills:

The required skills enable the machinist to accurately interpret complex technical drawings and execute precise machining operations on manual lathes, ensuring parts meet exact specifications. Proficiency with measuring tools is essential for quality control and verifying tolerances during and after machining. Safety awareness and adherence to protocols protect both the machinist and equipment, fostering a secure work environment. Effective communication and record-keeping skills support collaboration with engineering teams and maintain traceability of work performed, contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

About the Company:

Axian Technology has been supplying products and services to aerospace, military, medical, electronics and commercial customers since 1959. Axian supplies products to customers around the world using the latest machinery, systems, and controls. We are an industry leader in the manufacturing of machined parts.

Our facility is a modern, state-of-the-art manufacturing complex located in north central Phoenix, Arizona. Our main plant is located off the I-17 west side access road, just south of Union Hills, about 20 minutes north of Sky Harbor Airport. It produces machined parts and assemblies.

In 2020, we moved into a larger facility to allow for continued growth. In this move, we added about 10,000 square feet to our footprint. Previously, Axian populated 3 separate buildings, totaling about 30,000 square feet. Axian is now under one roof, with approximately 42,000 square feet in our manufacturing plant.

We are continually improving our processes and increasing our level of automation and productivity in order to effectively compete with the ever-increasing foreign competition. Axian is well versed in CNC machining, as well as manual processes where needed. Our variety of machines allows us to be competitive on a wide variety of products, while reducing the need to outsource any machining, which further drives down our costs.
