Role Overview

A prominent tech CEO and his wife are seeking an exceptional governess for their two school aged children, a girl aged six and a boy aged seven. Having employed a nanny for the past three years, the family are now looking to transition to a highly intelligent, academically accomplished governess who can take the children’s development far beyond the standard school curriculum.

The father works at the forefront of artificial intelligence and is deeply conscious that traditional education alone will not be sufficient to prepare children for the future. As such, the family are seeking someone capable of transcending conventional learning frameworks, inspiring curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and intellectual independence from an early age.

The household is informal and relaxed in style, however the family hold very high standards. They are keen for their children to benefit from structure, discipline, manners, and etiquette, balanced with warmth, encouragement, and inspiration. The governess will be trusted to bring intellectual leadership, vision, and presence, helping the children develop skills and ways of thinking that will remain relevant in a rapidly evolving world.

There may be scope for light PA or house management crossover for the right candidate, though the core focus of the role remains firmly centred on the children.

Schedule

The role is five days per week, with two working days required at the weekend. Days off will be taken during the week and agreed directly with the family.

The family travel for approximately four weeks per year and do not require the governess to travel with them. In return, a degree of flexibility is expected during the working weeks.

Key Responsibilities

The governess will take full responsibility for the children’s educational development, enrichment, and intellectual growth. This will include designing and delivering learning experiences that extend well beyond the school curriculum, encouraging advanced thinking, creativity, problem solving, and independence.

The role will involve supporting schoolwork while also introducing wider concepts, discussions, and projects that challenge the children academically and intellectually. The governess will be expected to identify individual strengths and interests and actively cultivate these through tailored activities and experiences.

Alongside academic development, the governess will instil discipline, structure, manners, and etiquette, helping the children develop confidence, independence, and high personal standards.

The role will also include transporting the children to and from school and activities, planning stimulating outings, and liaising closely with the parents regarding progress and development.

There are no housekeeping duties associated with this role. The household employs a full time live in housekeeper.

Candidate Requirements

• Exceptional academic background
• Degree educated, with a preference for science, technology, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, or physics related disciplines
• Confident challenging children beyond the curriculum and nurturing future ready skills
• US or UK work experience required
• Driver essential. A car will be provided

Accommodation

The role can be offered on either a live in or live out basis. Salary remains the same for both options. If live out, accommodation costs are to be covered by the candidate.

• Salary up to $200,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications

The recruitment process will include multiple interview stages, followed by a paid trial of approximately 7 to 14 days.
