Specialist II, Water Quality

Purpose
Carries out various assigned aspects of the wastewater monitoring program and associated compliance activities. Performs other duties as required.
Accountabilities
- Collect and test wastewater samples for various analytes as required by permits.
- Analyze data to identify trends, anomalies, and necessary corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Prepare, review, and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
- Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment used in testing procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of wastewater control plans.
- Conduct regular inspections of wastewater treatment facilities.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of testing instruments.
- Participate in emergency response activities related to wastewater incidents.
- Support operations working with pre-treatment and industrial discharges to ensure compliance with the permits.
- Serve as liaison with contracted laboratories.
- Regularly report to and communicate with the supervisor regarding compliance activities.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, plus two years of experience in wastewater sampling or the engineering field, or a suitable equivalent.
- Must have general knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations dealing with wastewater permits.
- Grade 3 wastewater Operator license (preferred).
- Must possess a valid Arizona Class D driver’s license
- Must communicate with co-workers and display a positive attitude.
