Specialist II, Water Quality

Purpose

Carries out various assigned aspects of the wastewater monitoring program and associated compliance activities. Performs other duties as required.

Accountabilities

• Collect and test wastewater samples for various analytes as required by permits.
• Analyze data to identify trends, anomalies, and necessary corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
• Prepare, review, and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
• Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment used in testing procedures.
• Assist in the development and implementation of wastewater control plans.
• Conduct regular inspections of wastewater treatment facilities.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of testing instruments.
• Participate in emergency response activities related to wastewater incidents.
• Support operations working with pre-treatment and industrial discharges to ensure compliance with the permits.
• Serve as liaison with contracted laboratories.
• Regularly report to and communicate with the supervisor regarding compliance activities.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma, plus two years of experience in wastewater sampling or the engineering field, or a suitable equivalent.
• Must have general knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations dealing with wastewater permits.
• Grade 3 wastewater Operator license (preferred).
• Must possess a valid Arizona Class D driver’s license
• Must communicate with co-workers and display a positive attitude.
