Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring EVD experience and strong neuro assessment skills.
Details
- 32-bed Neuro ICU within a world-renowned neurological disease treatment and research institution affiliated with a Level 1 Trauma center
- Acute care ICU setting serving critically ill patients with neurological diagnoses, including post-craniotomy, brain tumor removal and ablation, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2 in the Neuro ICU
- Ventilator management is required in this unit
- Philips monitors used for telemetry monitoring
- Charting performed in Cerner EMR
- 12-hour day shifts, 7am–7pm
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage follows core staff rotation
- Travelers are first to float; floating is required to other ICU floors and Tele units, with a 1:4 patient ratio on Tele
- RT and Pharmacy support available 24/7
- Charge nurse is present on the unit and does not take a patient assignment
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) required; candidates with at least 18 months of Neuro ICU experience may be considered
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- EVD (external ventricular drain) experience required
- Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP monitoring experience required
- Prior travel experience of 3–6 months preferred
- BSN not required
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to patients with complex neurological diagnoses in a high-acuity ICU environment
- Candidates must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts are allowed — candidates who do not pass are ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona positions for 6 months
- A pass/fail skills assessment on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is conducted on Day 1 of orientation; failure on both attempts results in ineligibility for CommonSpirit Arizona positions for 6 months
- All RNs assigned to this campus must complete a SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; SIMs Lab is pass/fail and requires demonstrated competency in maintaining sterile field
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Steel grey scrubs are required for Neuro floors
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings are required; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Travelers are expected to have their own personal vehicle
