Senior Staff Accountant
Description
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, advanced proficiency in QuickBooks (including Desktop version), and strong analytical skills. This role involves a full range of accounting activities, from daily transaction processing to financial reporting and analysis.
QuickBooks Management:
- Efficiently manage and maintain QuickBooks data entry and updates, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and categorized.
- Perform regular data cleaning and system optimization to maintain data integrity and system performance.
- Ensure accurate and timely data input and reconciliation, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable transactions, and journal entries.
- Generate and analyze financial reports within QuickBooks to provide insights into company performance.
- Troubleshoot QuickBooks related issues and provide support to other users.
Reconciliations :
- Conduct weekly bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies promptly and accurately.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts (e.g., accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, fixed assets) as required, ensuring accuracy and identifying any potential issues.
- Prepare and analyze reconciliation reports, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
Month-End and Year-End Close:
- Assist with month-end closing procedures, including preparing and posting accruals, adjustments, and other necessary journal entries.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports (e.g., income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) for management review, providing insightful commentary on financial performance.
- Assist with year-end closing and financial statement preparation, working with external auditors as needed.
General Accounting:
- Oversee the complete accounting cycle, including bank reconciliations, deposits, accounts receivable, check runs, and sales tax preparation.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
- Prepare and process expense reports, verifying accuracy and adherence to company policies.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Financial Analysis:
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports, analyze data, and create insightful financial models to support strategic decision-making.
- Perform variance analysis, comparing actual results to budget and forecasts, and providing explanations for any significant deviations.
- Identify trends and patterns in financial data, providing recommendations for improvement.
Budgeting:
- Develop and manage annual budgets, working with department heads to create realistic and achievable budgets.
- Track expenses and provide variance analysis, monitoring spending and identifying areas for potential cost savings.
- Forecast future financial performance based on current trends and projections.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and increase efficiency, implementing changes to improve workflows and reduce manual effort.
- Evaluate and recommend new accounting software or tools to enhance financial management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments (e.g., operations, sales, marketing) to ensure accurate financial reporting and support overall business objectives.
- Communicate effectively with non-financial personnel, explaining complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Other Responsibilities :
- Stay up-to-date on current accounting standards and regulations.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Requirements
A highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to manage financial records, perform reconciliations, assist with month/year-end close, conduct financial analysis, and contribute to budgeting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage QuickBooks (including Desktop version), ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
- Perform bank and account reconciliations.

- Perform general accounting duties (A/P, A/R, expense reports).
- Conduct financial analysis and prepare reports.
- Contribute to budget development and management.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 4+ years of relevant accounting experience.
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
