Laser Machine experience is not mandatory. Any candidate with 3, 4, or 5-axis mill, lathe, or other robotic CNC experience is encouraged to apply!
This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the industry’s newest and most advanced multi-axis laser cutting/drilling machine centers to produce complex high-precision components for commercial and defense aerospace industrial applications. You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure parts are manufactured efficiently, accurately, and on schedule. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform laser cutting and drilling of tight-tolerance, complex-geometry parts using 6-axis Prima Power Laserdyne Fiber Optic Laser systems
- Independently set up and operate laser machining centers
- Perform precise laser beam, beam director, OFC, and camera alignments to maintain machine accuracy within specification
- Calibrate and troubleshoot Automatic Focus Control (AFC) systems
- Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and annual preventative maintenance, as well as minor machine repairs
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to equipment performance, tooling and fixture fitment, and part tolerances
- Read, interpret, and work with G & M codes and programming structures, including subroutines
- Develop simple- to medium-complexity CNC programs and utilize CAM software such as Autodesk Fusion 360
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards
- Follow detailed work instructions while maintaining compliance with procedures and specifications
- Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy against drawings and sketches
- Identify improper machine operation or cutting conditions and assist in implementing corrective actions
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, management, and production teams by providing constructive and professional process feedback
- Maintain compliance with all safety, quality, and NADCAP aerospace requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with training team members as needed
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in multi-axis laser cutting preferred
- Experience with Prima Power Laserdyne systems required; fiber laser experience preferred
- Possess, or have the ability to obtain, laser safety certification in accordance with LIA, OSHA, and ANSI standards
- Experience laser cutting and drilling tight-tolerance, complex-geometry parts
- Strong understanding of linear coordinate systems, multi-axis rotations, single/dual rotary systems, and offsets
- Knowledge of laser power parameters, including pulse width, frequency, peak power, average power, joules, penetration dwell, and gas types/pressures
- Experience machining high-temperature nickel alloys such as Inconel, Hastelloy, and Haynes, as well as 300/400 series stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel
- Proficient in G & M codes and CNC programming structures, including subroutines
- Ability to create simple- to medium-complexity programs; experience with CAM software such as Autodesk Fusion 360 highly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and ASME Y14.5 GD&T requirements, including true position, profile tolerances, runout, flatness, and parallelism
- Understanding of fixed processes and Laser NADCAP aerospace requirements
