Basic Job Functions: Nucor Steel Kingman is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Metallurgist. Principal duties include participating in safety, commercial excellence, and continuous improvement of the rolling and melting processes, as well as driving overall quality improvement throughout the facility. The successful candidate will support process and product development initiatives, training efforts, and the use of statistical process control tools. The Quality team works to identify quality trends, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions that support product quality and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with individuals from a variety of technical, operational, and leadership backgrounds. They are confident in asking questions, proactive in seeking understanding, attentive to details, and capable of effectively prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities. This teammate will partner with the Roll Mill and Melt Shop to establish clearly defined processes that meet customer expectations while supporting the division's objectives for safety, quality, productivity, and profitability.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
- Communication Skills - The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.
- Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work - Developing specific goals and plans for prioritizing, organizing, and accomplishing individual work and/or the work of the team.
- Leadership Presence and Courage - Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on critical alignment issues
- Teamwork - Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal
- Accountability - Displays responsibility with work habits and has ability to hold others accountable for desired results
- Problem Solving & Judgment/Decision Making - Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options to choose the most appropriate solution
- Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering
- Steel industry experience
- Experience using SQL, Power BI, ibaAnalyzer or similiar for data analysis, reporting, and process monitoring
