Cleanroom Mechanical Inspection Specialist (Optical/Ultrasonic)

Imagine Your First Week

You’ll rotate between the cleanroom and the main production floor, laying out centerlines and reference points, checking fit and motion in assemblies, and confirming hardness and surface finish. You’ll compare first-run parts against drawings, generate enlarged comparator details, and use fluorescent lighting and ultrasonic equipment to uncover internal defects. Along the way, you’ll verify gauges, document every finding, and complete minor preventive maintenance to keep instruments trustworthy.

Key Responsibilities

• Measure critical dimensions (angles, radii, contours, thread leads) to tolerance.
• Position workpieces accurately; establish layout features (reference points, centerlines).
• Test parts for fit, movement, and mechanical function.
• Perform hardness testing and assess surface finish.
• Inspect first-article parts and assemblies for conformance.
• Detect flaws/fissures using ultrasonic and fluorescent methods.
• Inspect, adjust, and verify gauges and measuring instruments.
• Review defective parts, determine root cause, and advise on corrective actions; evaluate salvageability.
• Create enlarged part details for optical comparator applications.
• Complete accurate inspection reports and documentation.
• Execute minor preventive maintenance; maintain a clean, organized, and safe area.

Qualifications

• Technical school certificate or one year of related education/training.
• 3–6 months of inspection, testing, or manufacturing experience (or equivalent).
• Strong attention to detail and process discipline.
• Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and comparators.
• Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Clear written/verbal communication; thorough documentation skills.
• Comfort working near moving machinery, chemicals, and moderate noise.
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for most of the shift.

Work Environment

• Frequent standing, walking, sitting; fine motor hand work.
• Occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and chemicals.
• Moderate noise levels.
• Close-vision capability with focus adjustment required.
