ECN Automation is seeking a control automation technician to support our operations in our Phoenix office. The Automation Technician plays a vital role in supporting and maintaining automated control systems, primarily within the mining industry. This position involves installing, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs, control panels, and industrial equipment. The technician collaborates closely with engineers and project managers to optimize automation processes, ensure compliance with safety standards, and assist with commissioning and continuous improvement projects. Responsibilities include electrical diagnostics and repairs, basic programming of PLC systems, panel building and testing, field commissioning, report creation, and supporting various project phases from design to startup. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented team player, able to work under tight deadlines and travel as required.
Responsibilities include
· Install, maintain, and troubleshoot automated systems and equipment
· Program logic controllers (PLCs)
· Diagnose and repair electrical issues
· Collaborate with engineers to optimize automation processes
· Ensure compliance with safety regulations in all automation activities
· Troubleshooting and programming of automation equipment
· Assist Engineering Group with trials and improvement opportunities.
· Assist Engineering Group to modify baseline programs if necessary.
· Support Continuous Improvement.
· Planning projects to help optimize.
· Benchmarking of the company standards.
· Must be willing to travel up to 50%
· Carry out activities based on the work schedule assigned by Project Managers and Project Lead
· Carry out activities based on the internal ProjectDone standard (hours report, monitoring of work methodology).
· Basic supervision of electrical installations.
· Carry out activities based on the work schedule reported by the assigned PM
· Panel Building and construction
· Control Panel FAT
· VFD Panels FAT
· RIO Panels FAT
· Control Engineering reading and understanding
· Basic PLC and HMI/Scada programming, mainly focused on testing and troubleshooting
· Basic Industrial networks programming
· Wiring Termination
· Basic Industrial instrumentation configuration
· Automation Projects field commissioning
· Automation Engineering Red Lines
· Automation and computer equipment testing at reception
· I/O checkout on the field and the control Panel terminals.
· Creation of reports.
Education Requirements
Optional: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineering or other technical certifications related to this field.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 months to 1 year of experience as an Electrical technician.
- Team Player
- Vision must be sufficient to read data reports, manuals, and computer screens
- A keen eye for aesthetics and detail.
- Hearing must be sufficient to understand a conversation at a normal volume, including telephone calls and in person.
- Speech must be coherent to clearly convey or exchange information, including the giving and receiving of assignments and/or directions.
- Basic Experience with Rockwell Automation Software
- May be required to lift 25-50lbs.
Key Competencies / Desired Skill Set:
- Demonstrated competency in electronic engineering including engineering principles, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrable ability in the following:
1. Operation of various power, voltage and current measurement equipment, test instruments and hand tools
2. Analysis and solving complex problems
3. Use of Graphic Tools such as Visio, AutoCAD, and FTView SE
4. Microsoft Office programs
5. Reading and understanding electrical schematics and drawings
6. Effective written and verbal communication.
7. Teamwork
- Demonstrable knowledge of the following:
1. Rockwell Automation Products & Software
2. Industrial Instrumentation principles
3. Basic Process Controller Function Block Programming, PLC ladder logic, digital and sequential logic programming methods, and process related closed-loop control systems
4. Variable Frequency Drives specification, installation, and commissioning.
5. The National Electrical Code
6. API codes as applied to electrical installations.
- General Knowledge on:
1. Communication tools (Outlook, I Explorer, SharePoint, Teams)
2. Mining Processes.
3. Other Automation products. Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, Foxboro, Wonderware.
